What Is Liposuction? |
 |
Liposuction is a procedure used to remove unwanted fat in localized areas of the body. A small incision is made in the skin and a cannula is inserted through the opening. The cannula, with the assistance of an attached vacuum, suctions unwanted fat out of the body.

What Is The Tumescent Technique? |
In the past the only way to do liposuction was under general anesthesia. Now with the Tumescent Technique general anesthesia is no longer required. The Tumescent Technique utilizes the infiltration of saline, epinephrine and lidocaine underneath the skin to both anesthetize the treatment area and allow the cannula to move freely through fatty deposits. The best thing about this technique is that this procedure can be done in the comfort of our office. You get all of the benefits of liposuction without any of the downfalls of general anesthesia.

The Best Candidates for Liposuction: |
| |
The best candidates for liposuction are those that are in good health, have good skin elasticity, have small fatty areas that do not respond well to diet and exercise and have realistic expectations from treatment. Liposuction is never used as a means to promote weight loss. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite. During your cosmetic consultation, our physicians will review your health history and determine whether or not you are a good candidate for this or any of our other related procedures such as laser liposuction or Zeltiq Cryolipolysis. |

Following Surgery. |
| |
A compression garment is worn for about a week following surgery. After surgery, pain is minimal to moderate and is controlled with oral medication. An antibiotic may be prescribed to prevent infection. Most patients are completely ambulatory following liposuction surgery, but rest is recommended for the initial postoperative period. Patients are normally able to return to normal activities within a few days although vigorous activity is discouraged for at least a week following surgery.

What Will My Recovery Be Like? |
| |
An elastic garment will be applied to the treatment area and should be worn for a week after treatment. This will help reduce swelling and aid in your recovery time. Patients are advised to rest for 24 to 48 hrs after liposuction and slowly introduce activities as tolerated. Patients are advised to avoid any strenuous activities for at least 1 week after treatment.
